Overview This project focused on choosing a favorite artist set to perform in a concert in your city and developing a concept to promote their concert through the release of their vinyl album.A Wes Wilson band poster, 1967
Brief and the Challenge Drawing inspiration from the iconic Rock 'n' Roll art movement of the '60s and '70s, the challenge was to incorporate its elements in the vinyl cover in the most authentic and purist way possible.
About the Movement Rock n' Roll design ( Psychedelic Design) is an art form that tends to have intense colors, free-flowing lines, and kaleidoscopic patterns. It was at its most popular during the 60s and 70s. It was created in San Francisco in the 1960s by artists who belonged to the hippie movement, first appearing as posters for rock concerts being played around the city.art by Victor Moscoso
A Wes Wilson band posterExploring and Gathering Insights Psychedelic design features vibrant colours, surreal imagery, kaleidoscopic patterns, and unconventional typography, often influenced by Art Nouveau. I studied Wes Wilson, a pioneer of Psychedelic art, famed for his 1966 "psychedelic font" and celebrated as one of the Big Five who redefined the movement.
Brainstorming Ideas I brainstormed different ideas which included layouts of the Vinyl Cover Design, taking inspiration from the famous works of Wes Wilson.
Design Concept I chose Lady Gaga, one of my personal favorites, and imagined a hypothetical event where she performs live in concert in Mumbai as part of her album tour. The concept blends Lady Gaga's iconic vibe with the bold, energetic style of Rock 'n' Roll Psychedelic design.
Key Learnings This project allowed me to explore the art form of the Rock and Roll Psychedelic Movement which involved putting the purist approach to the design and I also learned to work with typography in the Rock n Roll Style.
